Hello!

I'm now officially a Volunteer!  More on that later.  Big travel ahead.  A few new pictures have been added.

Two things:

First, I've posted a new address on the right side bar.  The address in Tamale is faster, but it can only be used for letters/envelopes.  Please continue to use the Accra address for packages.

Second, I've created a Skype account!  I can talk for free when I have the internet.  It's very cheap to call to international mobile phones using Skype as well... hopefully this will help to keep us all in touch.

Blackberries aren't powerful enough in most areas to handle email and text messaging is free.Good Luck~

Sister- get in gear and get your butt over here! I miss you too! Family love! I'll post the pup pup soon.

Hey Laura- lots to think about when joining the PC. Ghana is a great place. Definitely more advanced in the cell phone culture than other African countries. (You should know, though, that you do not get to pick your country when you go into the PC. You can prioritize a continent, and hopefully they'll keep that in mind when giving you your assignment. I requested Africa, but there are other PCVs here who did not want Africa.) Some blackberries work here, but most American phones aren't compatible here. Most likely you'll have to buy a new one (hard to do on a PCV budget). Some places will "decode" your American phone to make it work here, but you're definitely running a risk. On my plan it's 10 pesewas (about 10 cents) to send a text to the US (4 pesewas in country), and free to receive them. Keep in mind, though, that by American standards that is pretty cheap, but as a PCV living on $2 a day it adds up to be a lot of money. You can also rig up a phone with blue tooth to get the internet, but that's also pretty costly. Good luck!
